The Delphine – 19th-Century Tapestry
Sale price Price Sold Out Unit price per
Woven in muted browns and beiges, The Delphine carries a quiet kind of grandeur. We’d hang her in a dining room or a living space with high ceilings—behind a white linen sofa, she would anchor the room in the most understated way.
Rarely found in such a grand scale, she measures over eight feet wide—an extraordinary size even among 19th-century French tapestries. Pieces of this magnitude were typically commissioned for expansive châteaux and estate homes, designed to bring softness, symmetry, and stillness to vast rooms. It’s a scale that feels almost impossible to replicate today—and it’s precisely what makes her so special.
She was found in Avignon, along with two others from the same estate—likely once lining the walls of a grand country château. The woven border is more than detail: it’s a hallmark of 19th-century craftsmanship, framing the pastoral scene with quiet elegance.
Dimensions: 100" x 68.5"
Please note: Surface wear, patina, and fraying at the edges—woven into her long story and lasting charm.
